Conviction & Sin

Hi Fam,
How’ve we been? I hope we’ll all been good, and have had things to rejoice about despite the recent circumstances.

I just wanted to drop in and briefly update. It’s been a long week for me so this post is sadly coming up late, which was not my intention but, sometimes, we have to leave space for life to happen.

Today, I wanted to talk about conviction and a small lesson that I’ve learnt these past 2 weeks. I’m not sure how best to go into it, but I’ve pretty much been learning that at times, we don’t have to wait until we feel conviction for us to do the right thing. Many times, I was waiting for a feeling to come, in order for me to stop doing whatever I knew (even subconsciously) was wrong. But in that moment, what I realised was that, if I’m waiting for conviction then that means that deep down, I know that what I was doing was wrong. And if my conscience had already borne me witness that what I was doing was wrong, why was I waiting for an extra special prompting from the Holy Spirit for me to stop doing what I knew was wrong?

I share this to say that sometimes we know what is wrong but we’re waiting for a special sign from Heaven for us to stop doing wrong. But the truth is many times, we know what is right to do but we just want to feign ignorance and pretend that we’re in the right. It’s not easy but I can attest that the peace of mind from doing what is right is far above the supposed ‘bliss’ of ignorance.

If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.
James 4:17 (NIV)

Be blessed fam,

Ope O
