Hi guys, how are we all doing? I hope we’re all well and healthy?!
As you may have remembered from last week, I mentioned that I will be branching out to discuss using our gifts. Personally, I have felt for so long that I was meant to be ‘more’; to be something more, something greater. Growing up, I’ve heard people say to me and about me, ‘you’re going to be great’. I can’t lie and say that I fully understand what that meant, but what I can say is that it resonated with me. And it led me to think, how can one be great/become great? And herein began my search of purpose and destiny. All in all, I really believe that despite the confusion and lack of understanding, that the Holy Spirit has been leading me and has led me to a journey of discovering my gifts and what I’m meant to be doing with my life. So…
What is my gift?
Patrice C. Washington describes your gift as something that you do better than anyone else around you with the least amount of effort. So take a second and think… what do you naturally do better than anyone else around you with the least amount of effort? For me, I had to think back to when I was younger and to what came easily to me. To the things I was commended for back then. The answer that to me was writing.
I remembered when I was 10 years old, and my primary school teacher awarded me for a story I wrote. I remember the look of excitement on his face when he handed me the award and explained that he had never given a grade so high for a writing piece. At the time it was nice to hear, but thinking back now, it was a clear indication that I had a gift with words.
Our gift is a present to us at birth. It’s something that comes naturally to us (even if we might have to refine it to perfect it); it’s something that holds the key to our purpose and what we can give back to humanity.
The Bible lets us know that our gifts will make a way for us (Proverbs 18:16). And while we’re on our road(s) to discovery, let’s keep this on our minds; what is my gift? How can I use it to make a way for myself? To carve out the future/life that I need/want?
ShineALight is about using our God-given ability to ‘Shine A Light’. I’m using my gift now to shine a light, to bless others. To share good news with other people. We are called to help others, to serve other.
Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, "Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all." Mark 9:35 (NIV)
If we are to ‘ShineALight’, we must use our gifts to bless and serve others; not putting ourselves first but putting others above us.
So, if you’re looking to discover your gifts and your purpose on this earth; I recommend that you check out Patrice C. Washington; and her YouTube channel. It has been a great help and continues to be a great help to me on this journey. Check it out and let me know your thoughts!
Peace and love,
