My Two Cents…

It’s a bright summer’s day. The Pastor has just passionately preached a message on the Kingdom of God and Kate had been unable to move under the massive weight his words had had on her. She had been forced to look inwardly and determine whether or not she was in the Kingdom. The service had not ended yet, but she felt led to give something to God in appreciation for the word that He had just enable her to hear; as appreciation for the new season she has just been birthed into.

She didn’t have much, in fact, she had never had much, but she knew that she couldn’t leave without giving something. She opened her purse and peered inside: a great abyss greeted her, a vast emptiness broken by two gleams, hints at the two coins that she had left. She looked around, shook the bag and prayed that by some miracle, more would surface.

Kate knew the kind of church she was going to, and while she knew that she was under no pressure to give a certain amount, she also knew that there were a few in the church who had very keen eyes and would surely have something to say when they saw her offering.

Nevertheless, the two coins would have to do. Kate knew that although it wasn’t a lot, God was able to bless the few and would surely appreciate the amount as it came from her heart. So, with bravery, she stood up and walked across the short aisle towards the altar where she tried to deftly give her offering but of course, she wasn’t so lucky. She caught a few people giving her side eyes when they saw her offering, but she tried not to let it bother her. She had given all she could, and she believed God that he would find her offering favourable in His sight.

Upon seeing Kate drop her two coins, Karen scoffed to Susan, ‘who does she think she is? Like, why does she even bother, does she think her two little coins can make a difference?’. Susan perks up and responds with ‘well, I don’t know for her, but she better not come back requesting financial aid from the church. Cause I for one will not accept that. Also, she should be better at managing her money. We all know that she doesn’t have much to give anyways so I don’t know what she’s playing at’.

There are many times that we feel like we don’t have a lot to give but as we learn in the story of the talents, that even the little we have can go a long way. If we think that because of the little we have, we can’t give and bless others, then we miss the point and we lose the blessing that we could have potentially gotten.

The Bible says in Luke 18:29-30
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or sisters or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God
30 will fail to receive many times as much in this age, and in the age to come eternal life.”

This lets us know that we give to receive. And there’s nothing that we give that we will not receive even more from God for. So be encouraged, your little goes a long way. And no matter what people say (and will say), God sees your heart and there’s nothing that you give that will not be repaid, here on Earth, and in the age to come.

Stay blessed and stay loved,

Ope ❤
