Life goes on and on in an endless circle. You wake up, barely have time to utter a word of thanks to God. You rush out the door, send 8,9,10 hours at work. Rush home, have dinner, barely have time to utter a word to God before you snooze off. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
To be honest, for a while this has been my cycle. Adulting and trying to balance everything is not easy but lately I’ve been trying to push myself and correct myself.
Surely there’s more to life than this? If I don’t take the initiative to press into God I’m going to find myself dying spiritually and looking back and no longer being able to find myself in Christ (a bit dramatic but it’s true). I feel like so often we get caught up in the busyness of life, and we forget about the more important things in life, like Martha. I guess life is built like that, to choke us with worries so that we lose our connection with the only one who can truly save, and to the uttermost.
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things,Luke 10:41-42 (NIV)
but few things are needed–or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
And so, I’m imploring us to hold on to our secret place with God. Life can be so so challenging but the only one who can be there for use and shield us is God. If we lose that also, who are we? What have we achieved? What is worth our relationship with God?
Let’s, with the help of the Holy Spirit, get back to that place where God is first and remains first. I heard it said that we make room for what we treasure. Let’s treasure God and make room for him. If I’m honest this is a challenge for me but God is too important to me to let him go. What about you?
