Lessons In Self Love

I never expected to be writing a blog post about this, but a thought came to my mind over the past two days about just how important it is to love yourself, not superficially or even on a surface level, but in depth, sincerely and without the need for others’ validation. Love is something that we must first of all have before we can give it out. John 3:16 lets us know that God loved and therefore He gave. What’s the pattern in this? It’s that in order to give we must first love. If I don’t love myself, how can I expect others to love me the way I ought to be loved or to even know how I deserve to be loved?

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 (New International Version)

Self-love has been something that I’ve been developing on and working on for some while, in fact it’s a very long story that stems from the very precious seven-year-old me and my move to a new continent. But the previous day I really just deeped that I actually loved myself. To be frank I have my deep session of reminiscing about OG K-Pop songs to thank for the realisation, but what can you say? It’s not so much the methods but the results- God works in wonderful ways!

The thought occurred to me that if I don’t love myself, the world will give me plenty of reasons to hate myself so it’s best that I help myself out and give myself the best chance I can. I mean, even people that in the natural eye we would consider ‘good looking’ feel that they’re lacking in some form and end up getting plastic surgery to ‘fix’ something about themselves that probably wasn’t a problem in the first place, not knocking anyone that has had plastic surgery, but this is exactly what I mean! If we don’t learn to genuinely love ourselves, faults and all, the world and expectations will give us a reason to hate something about ourselves. It’s time that we start a revolution and love ourselves genuinely! Don’t wait for others to validate you and tell you something good about yourself, love yourself, love your physical self and everything that comes with you. Encourage yourself in your growth and water your grass because at the end of the day, your life is your responsibility and your growth depends on you.

Love and light,

Ope

Keep the light shining 🙂
